In June of 2017, Hudson-Hall-Wheaton American Inn of Court member Melissa Fell and her son enjoyed an international visit to The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, London, England. “A great new association to have indeed!” said Ms. Fell after her educational visit with a senior English Barrister.
The visit featured a tour of one of the finest Elizabethan Halls in England. Completed in 1573 The Middle Temple Hall houses chambers from which barristers practice. Our Inn member dined in the historical Hall and was educated by a senior Barrister who has been an Inn member of the Middle Temple for nearly 50 years, practicing in England and Italy. The English Barrister educated our Inn member and her son on the training of advocates and practice of family law in England. Hudson-Hall-Wheaton member Melissa Fell is an Associate member practicing family law in Oklahoma.
American Inns of Court recently celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2015. The relationship between the American and English Inns of Court was established in 1988 with a Declaration of Friendship, signed by Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger and the Right Honourable Lord Bridge of Harwich. International outreach opportunities include exchange programs such as the Pegasus Scholarship Trust and the Temple Bar Scholarships. As a Pegasus scholar, American Inn of Court members who are in their first five years of practice visit London for six weeks to learn about the English legal system. Likewise, English barristers spend six weeks in the United States with a host American Inn of Court to gain exposure to the American legal system through educational activities planned by the host Inn.
The Hudson-Hall-Wheaton American Inn of Court in Tulsa, Oklahoma encourages Inn members to establish worldwide connections, to promote educational opportunities in the community, and to make a greater impact on the legal profession.
